OPUNAKE!=+!LOOPER!
A new 12 Hour trail running event like no other!
Set in the spectacular seaside town of Opunake on the rugged Taranaki coast, the LOOPER will incorporate multiple variations of trail tracks around the township and coastal trail network. To keep things interesting, the trail loops will change every three hours.
How many loops can you complete in the 12 hours?
FORMAT
Solo, pairs, or teams of 4. Runners all start at 8am, Date- TBC March/ April/ May 2025
For the solo runners, complete as many laps as you can within the 12 hour time limit.
Pairs and 4 person teams must have one runner on the trail at all times, and after each competed loop, team members must change the transition zone and for the 4 person teams, runners must stay in the same order throughout the event.
TIMING
All solo runners/ teams will be issued with a 'Sport Ident' timing device- these small 'dibber's' will be worn around the wrist and 'dibbed' into a control box out on each loop- this dibber will collect all the lap numbers and distances and at the completion of the 12 hours will give a total distance covered.
THE TRAIL
The vast majority of the trail loops take advantage of the newly updated and revamped 'Opunake Trail Loop'- a work of outdoorsy awesomeness created by the wonderful Opunake Lions Club. Combinations of packed gravel tracks, grassy flats, single track through forests, a little bit of footpath with a small amount of (short lived) hills. The amazing variety of views, mountains, oceans, bush and lakes along with the changing of loops every three hours means this will be one race you wont ever get bored with! The loops all vary from 3.5 km to 9.5 km in length, and with the main transition and race base located at the Opunake Beach Motorcamp, you're never too far from supplies (or the township and fresh coffee and snacks!).
